How does automatic bidding work on ebay?

There's this signed poster I want extremely bad but the automatic bidding keeps going, what do I do? Right now it's 50 bucks, the bidding goes on for about three more hours. It originally started at 45. Thank you!

1. You put the maximum amount that you're willing to pay for the poster. If another bidder comes and raises the bid, automatic bidding will bid for you up until the threshold of how much you're willing to pay.
