How should we classify our real estate holdings in our asset allocation?

We currently have about half our assets in real estate that we own and manage, and half our assets in equities and bonds. However, since we have so much real estate, our bond holdings outside of the real estate is only 3%. I'm wondering if my husband is correct in categorizing our real estate with bonds in our asset allocation. Still waiting for confirmation of the answer, or a different answer.

  1. Real estate is a separate asset class from bonds or equities.
  2. Real estate is a completely separate asset class. Typical asset classes include real estate, bonds, commodities, and equities.
