M1-Garand Bayonet: Part 2?

OK! I now know what I'm going to get, and its a WWII bayonet. But I've ran into a problem, all of the WWII ones are long!(but I will just get one anyway) and so I would like to know if thus bayonet http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=718490&chrMasterModel=2070zM1%20GARAND&idDept=258 is from WWII (I think it is) and if it is then can it fit this sheath? http://froogle.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=66461308 And lastly, if the bayonet and/or bayonet don't fit or arn't from WWII then can you give me a site that DOES sell WWII bayonets and/or sheaths? Thanks!

  1. The Bayonet in the included link is an 16 inch M1905 bayonet. While this bayonet fits the M1 Garand, it was actually designed for the 1903 & 1917 Springfield Rifles and were mostly produced prior to and during WWI. These bayonets were re-issued to our troops during WWII but were mostly cut down to be 10 inches so as to make them easier for the troops to handle in cramped conditions. Additional M1905 bayonets were produced with a 10 inch blade and were classified as the M1 bayonet. The easy way to tell the difference between the M1 bayonet and cut down M1905 bayonets is that the "blood grove" on the cut down M1905 runt all the way to the tip of the blade whereas the blood grove on the M1 bayonet tapers down before the point. While a cut down M1905 or M1 bayonet would be much more accurate for M1-Garand, the full length M1905 will also fit your M1-Garand.
  2. Chances are good that it is a reproduction made recently. Real WW I & II bayos are collectors items and rarely see for sale, at least at a reasonable price. 16" bayos were cut down to 10" just after the start of WW II. They were shortened to 6" for use in Korea. Repro 16" bayos are around $100.00 without scabbard, 10" a little less and 6" cheaper still. Scabbards are extra most places. Go to ima-usa.com, cheaperthandirt.com, shotgunnews.com, smokeymountainknives.com, and you might find what you want. You can find them (possibly originals, too) at gun shows.
