How do I go about restoring my antique wooden boat?
So, I've picked up an antique wooden boat and it needs a little bit of work, but here is the main things i would like to know about: How do I get old screws and/or nails out of the wood without damaging it too much? If there are holes in the boat how do I go about fixing them? thanks, Luke

- If you have to ask on this forum, thejn you probably don't have the skills or knowledge to do the job even if someone were to give you detailed step-bu-step instructions. Instead of wasting everyone's time, why don't you go to your local library or book store and pick up a couple of 'how-to' books on wooden boat repair. Maybe you'll even learn something.
- I agree with JetDoc. There is a good magazine called "Wooden Boat". They do a lot of articles on restoration. I undertook the restoration of an antique "St. Lawrence Skiff" a number of years ago. It was quite a job. It would have been easier to use it as a pattern and build new. Restoration of any wooden boat takes considerable skill. I am an industrial mechanic, among other things, and I found the project "challenging". If the boat has any value as a real antique, you might be better to leave it on one side and practise on something more recent, at least until you collect some tools and bring your skills up to par. Why don't you try building a copy of this boat, new. Just use it as a pattern. Then, after you understand what you are doing, undertake the restoration.
- Look on line under antique wooden boat restoring and see what U can find it's a major restore removing the screws or nails without damaging the wood.
- Wasting everyone's time???
