If I repace a snow blower drive belt with a non v belt will it still work right?

My belt broke on my snow blower, the one that drives the wheels. I took it off searched ebay for a replacement part number. Found one that says it fits that model but the belt that came is a non v - belt its just a plane flat style belt, same width and lenthg though. Will this work the same or is it critical to have the v belt ribbed on the bottom style?

1. if you took a v-belt off, replace it with a v-belt. a flat belt will not work. almost any hardware, or parts store will have what you need take old belt in and they will match it.
