- no
- Heck yes you always need a gun. I'm a girl and i've got three. You never know when you'll be out in the woods and see a deer. Plus they double as a self-defense tactic.
- Thats a fine looking rifle there.* I think it would be a keeper if you decide you want to get it.*
- I have one just like it. They make great "wall hangers" but for hunting you need a good in-line. The ignition time is too long. I have wounded more deer than I have killed because they heard the hammer fall and were already bolting before the the ball was even out of the barrel. They are fun to shoot and like I said, make good decorations but, for the sake of the deer use something that will kill them humanely, either a modern rifle or an in-line muzzle-loader. OK? Don't listen to these cityots. On top of all the reasons that I gave you I still have a full load in mine because I could not get the breach plug out. These fools that gave me thumb's down are only hunting a place to put their trouser trout inside their Grandma's bloomers where her split tail resides!!!!
- well if you can get him to get you a 22 rifle i would go with that for a first gun,but if you cant the muzzle loaders better then nothing. get yourself a good book on muzzle loading. follow the guide lines of the book and never try to experiment(like adding more powder then recommended)...be safe and have fun
- It depends, are you going to hunt with it?
- I have a side lock Kentucky rifle and I have harvested many deer with it.........don't believe that crap that you have to have an in line muzzleloader or you won't get any deer.......that is a total nonsense answer
- Go for it. I had a CVA .50 Frontier (among others) and it was a fine shooter. I hunted deer with it and on the recommendation of a seasoned muzzle loader hunter always tried to take my shots at closer range (muzzle loaders don't have the projectile velocity of a modern firearm). But what they lack in range they make up for in "punch", remember you're firing a .50 caliber pure lead bullet that is much heavier than modern bullets. I would also recommend the use of Pyrodex rather than black powder. It's easier to use, you don't have to swab the bore after eight or ten shots to remove the fouling. Black powder is classified by the Feds as a low explosive while Pyrodex is classified as a flammable solid. Buy it. Load it and blast away...."front stuffers" are a hoot!
- HI..... This is a nice gun BUT I dont recommend you buy this as your first gun. I would suggest a quality .22 rifle or a rifle chambered in .17HMR.... You can get a lot of practice time in with these 2 rifles without the hassle of the muzzle loading stuff.......
- it looks good to me
- no, I don't recommend a black powder gun for a first gun. Second, why not buy a regular centerfire rifle or shotgun? Your dad can buy them for you, either online and have it sent to a gunshop, or just go right to a gunshop and buy it. He can buy it as a gift for you and you can come along to help pick it up. Later on you and your dad can figure out what chores or moneis you must donate to the family coffers for eveything to even out. I really doubt if the ATF is going to issue you an FFL at age 18, have you seen the requirements to get one? The bound paper books you have to keep? The gun safe you must purchase? Inspections? Besides to have an FFL you have to be engaged in the legitemate business of firearms transactions, it is not some permit to just go buy stuff off the internet
- Go for it! I see the thumbs down bunny was here, pesky rabbit!
- Don't buy it. Get a 22 rifle for first gun. You will have more fun with it and far fewer problems. That said, I hunt with a CVA and love it. But some things you deserve to get "new". Guns, cars and women all fall in that category, in my opinion. You will have plenty of time to enjoy multiple types of firearms and hopefully become a safe and successful hunter. Good luck.
- CVA is a good firearm. Yes, years ago they were made quick and rough and mostly came in kit form that you fit and finished yourself. I have had several over the years, and would buy another one tommorrow with no hesitation. Side note: you seem to be saying you are going to get an ffl at age 18?? Um, sorry, but you can't deal in handguns, buying or selling until your 21, and good luck trying to get an FFL anymore without having a storefront to use.
