How do I determine shipping cost to buyer on eBay?

I'm not quite sure how this works. Let's say I wanted to sell a DVD on eBay the most basic way possible. What should be the charge I put for "Shipping cost to buyer"? I know this is determined partially by the ZIP code of the buyer, so how do I put a price there since I do not know where the ZIP code of the buyer is located at since I haven't even put it up for auction yet?

  1. i would get the price for the furthest distance you ship and add 3 or 4 dollars. You charge shipping AND handling. For a DVD I would probably put between 6-8 bucks shipping and handling
  2. You go to the post office and ask them for the furthest place in your country that you will ship to. Lets say you are in NY and the furthest state would be CA...Ask how much to send the size and package/weight to that place. Let's say its $4.00, so then you charge $4.00 shipping to everyone regardless of where they live. This way you make a little extra on closer places, but this covers packaging materials, etc. Either that or you have to do it on a per order basis each time, then that gets to be tedious. Although you will have time once the bid is accepted to e-mail your buyer back and tell them the shipping charges. You can write a little blurb in you description to say "please contact seller for shipping information" Another option is to do a search on e-bay for a similar item, and see what others charge. Good Luck
  3. If a item is under 13 ounces, then it costs the same amount of money to ship anywhere in the US. I don't charge any more than $2.00 for handling. Be careful, Ebay has changed so many of their policies, including the new "feedback" policy. Please be careful not to overcharge your customers.
