Belt Auction

I received a spoof mail today -Yahoo servers let it though and scanned the attachment which contains a virus ?

The email claim to be from a well known Auction site -the attachment is a zip file. I down loaded the email with attachment from Yahoo website, and their Virus scanners let it through. I do not use Windows fortunately and I have not been infected. but Why are Yahoo letting these malicious attachments through? What steps to they need to take to stop their customers receiving Viruses? what do you think about this?

  1. I never open any EMail unless it's from someone who is in my address book.
  2. No email provider can't prevent *everything* from getting through. Those malicious bozos out there are coming up with new viruses everyday! The best prevention from getting infected lies with the user. You! : ) The number one rule is don't open an email or file from someone you don't know! And even then... be weary because they may not know they've just sent you some malware. You'll find a lot of tutorials about keeping your PC safe on PC101. Lyte
  3. IMHO, it's unreasonable to expect any piece of software to be able to catch *every* piece of malicious code that's out there. Try as they might, there are just too many variants appearing every day to keep up. By tomorrow, though, there may vey well be an update to the Yahoo servers' code that blocks the virus that you're talknig about.
  4. No man made scanning software is perfect but with a little bit of sense we could limit virus threat The rules states that if you do not trust it don't open it If you do not know where they came from please hit the delete button. Finally how did you know the attachment contains virus?you said you were not infected. There are loads of virus scanners that generate fake alarm just to prove you that they are effective
  5. think about limbo 2 a new key logger virus. sold on the net for $1300 every single one is different. so if 20 copies are sold in one day from your daily security updating itself to 1 hour later there are 19 new versions of this virus that the antivirus dosent knpw about. dont blame yahoo just dont open anything you dont know about.
